Opening-day winners! MERGing of PPL and Sunday all stars overpowers reborn ijuander, 102-93
February 17, 2015
ETV All Stars, the merger of PPL and Sunday All Stars, overpowered the equally strong team of Ijuander. ETV started the game with
sizzling shooting and led the first quarter, 32-13. Ijuander made some stops and came closer by chopping down ETV's lead to 11 after the
first half. Ijuander's good display of defense continued in the third canto which made them only two points behind, 59-57. But ETV
fought back with a barrage of points from different angles of the floor ending the third quarter with a 13-point lead, 71-58. It was anybody's
ballgame in the fourth quarter with less than a minute left in the clock, as ETV led by only six points. However, three consecutive
three-points connected by ETV took the game away from the resilient Ijuander.
Mark Herras led ETV's charge with 20 points.
manila media escapeS "unfocused" alisto, 64-61
February 17, 2015
Alisto trailed the whole game until they found their touches beyond the arc during the final minutes when they took the lead from
Manila Media, 61-60. Jover Amador missed both free throws with only 31 seconds remaining on the clock, which kept Alisto in the driver's
seat but Manila Media made a solid stop and forced Alisto to commit a turnover. Again, Amador visited the charity stripes, but this time
he made both free throws, bringing back the lead to Manila Media. With only 10 seconds left, Alisto had the chance to steal the game
but Josh Penilla's inbound was intercepted by Amador which resulted to an intentional foul and another two free throws Amador sank both.
Alisto had the last chance to tie the game through Edward Erfe's three but he missed the attempt. Manila Media escaped Alisto, 64-61.

Carl Guevara's prolific three-point shooting helps ppl BYPASS born, ties the series
December 15, 2014
Just like in the finals game of the last season—when they needed help the most—PPL leaned once again on the hot-handed
Carl Guevara during the crunch time of GMABL Season 3 Finals Game 2 held at Bernardo Court, Kamuning in Quezon City.
Last season's finals MVP poured in three triples in the finals canto when Clyde Reyes-less Born was on the verge of stealing the match
away from PPL.
PPL controlled the ball game and led by as much as 15 points in the third quarter, but Born made a rally and stole the lead, 60-58, in the
initial minutes of the fourth quarter. Then came Guevara who fired three consecutive treys to give back the lead to PPL and close out Game 2.
PPL has now tied the series, 1-1. Rodcor Lambino led PPL with 20 points while Born's Rommel La Madrid led all scorers with 29.
Born's second highest scorer Clyde Reyes didn't play during Game 2 and is out of the series due to injury.
LA MADRID-led born takes gMABL season 3 finals opener!
December 10, 2014
Born was off to a hot start and judging by the perplexed looks of PPL's players, the defending champion was certainly surprised by Born's
fast moves. PPL found themselves in a deep hole in the middle of the first quarter, 12-0. Using their speed to their advantage, Born took
the early lead in the first half and continued to pound PPL in the third canto when Born's lead went up to 21 points, 61-40.
In the fourth quarter, PPL intensified their defense and made some stops and baskets, cutting Born's lead down to three, 73-70 with only
a few minutes left in the clock. But Born's cohesiveness and familiarity with each other saved the game for them as they made a couple of
baskets through the back-door plays of Tisoy Cañeba, Clyde Reyes and hot-shooting Rommel La Madrid.
Born took Game 1, 83-76.
GMABL Season 3 Finals Game 2 is set on Monday, December 15, 2014.

PAG ASA, QUEZON CITY-- What began as an exciting ball game became a heated one that eventually led to a brawl. This was the
unfortunate incident that occurred during the match between Pigeons Sports Pilipinas (PSP) and PPL Entertainment (PPL) which led to
the cancellation of the rest of the games scheduled last August 25.
PSP and PPL's game was so close and exciting. The teams were just exchanging baskets and leads until the fourth quarter. When there
were only less than three minutes left on the clock, the brawl erupted.
Team representatives of PSP and PPL will have a meeting with the organizers to talk about the incident and reach a decision about sanctions.

blow
August 18, 2014
PAG ASA, QUEZON CITY-- ''Deja vu.'' This was the only explanation that Benson dela Paz and Stephen Patricio of Ijuander Boys
(formerly Public Affairs team) could give after their team lost dismally to USSC Express, their quarterfinals rival in GMABL Season 2.
USSC knocked down Ijuander 82-52.
Only six players of Ijuander showed up to play, so the Boys found themselves in a deep hole trying to see the light while USSC buried
them alive.

PPl FINDS 'Contrapelo' in THE dabarkads
August 18, 2014
PAG ASA, QUEZON CITY--The back-to-back champions PPL may have found their "contrapelo" in opponent Eat Bulaga Dabarkads, when
PPL lost to the Dabarkads, 65-60.
As expected, the match was a down-the-wire finish as neither team allowed the other to dictate the tempo of the game. The changing of
baskets between PPL's Rodcor Lambino and EB's Fernandez in the latter part of the game turned into a showdown.
Fernandez tallied 14 points for EB, while last season's MVP Lambino led all scorers with 20 points. But Lambino's efforts were not
enough for PPL to escape the Dabarkads.
Eat Bulaga was the only team that PPL did not defeat back in Season 2.

PPL CLAIMS CHAMPIONSHIP, WINS BACK-TO-BACK TITLES
June 30, 2014
PPL was hailed as the champion of the recently concluded Galing Mo Ah! Basketball Tournament (GMABT) Season 2 held at
Bernardo Center, Kamuning, Quezon City. PPL defeated Public Affairs in Game 2, 87-84, in the thrilling and much anticipated
GMABT finals.
Neither PPL nor PA took Game 2 lightly. The match went down wire-to-wire as both teams did not let the other slip away. Multiple lead
changes and deadlocks were the stories of the game. The situation changed when Public Affairs' main man Ervic Vijandre was slapped
with a technical foul for complaining and slamming the ball as protest for what he believed was a wrong call when the referee whistled on
his fast break move. Vijandre's objection gave PPL four free throws and ball possession.
Another dagger came to PA when Vijandre needed to leave due to work with only three minutes left in the game, and Public Affairs
was ahead by one, 77-76.
At 30 seconds remaining, PPL was leading by 1 point. Public Affairs' guard Benson dela Paz took matters into his own hands and went
for a triple but missed. PPL got the rebound and fouled 24 seconds left in the game. Rodcor Lambino made a split charity on the other
end that placed PPL's lead to 2.
Public Affairs had a chance to tie the game, but dela Paz opted to snatch the win by pulling another triple but he missed again.
PPL's Carlo Gonzales got the rebound and got fouled. Miraculously, Gonzales missed the last free throw, leaving the door open again
for Public Affairs to go for a tie.
With six seconds left in the game, PA's Ryan Cartago got the rebound and made a quick pass to dela Paz who was waiting in the corner
three-point land. But dela Paz missed another three-point goal, thus handing over the victory and back-to-back championship to PPL.
PPL's Carl Guevarra was chosen as the Finals MVP since he achieved an almost perfect three-point field goal (7 out of 10), and finished
the game with 27 points.
A "WALK IN THE PARK" VICTORY: PPL TAKES GAME 1 EASILY
June 23, 2014
Defending champion PPL easily took Game 1 of the GMABT Season 2 Finals that was held on June 23 at the Bernardo Center, Kamuning,
Quezon City, 85-53.
Public Affairs' all-star Big 3 were absent at the June 23 match. RJ Lambino and Benson dela Paz were nursing injuries while Ervic Vijandre
got stuck at work, giving everyone in PPL a chance to score and crush PA.
In the first half, Public Affairs managed to stick to the game and kept it close with PPL leading by only 11 points, 29-40 by the end of the
second quarter.
In the third quarter, PPL took the game away with a 20-0 run. PA didn't know where to get their points and how to score against PPL's
tightened defense.
PPL continued to pound PA and their lead ballooned to as much as 35 points and never looked back.
Mark Tolentino of Public Affairs admitted that they were not at their best at Game 1. He said, "Our team can't win with an incomplete lineup,
much less win with the kind of defense that we showed tonight. But we will do whatever it takes to bounce back."
Game 2 is set on Monday, June 30 at the Bernardo Center, Kamuning, QC.

PPL SURVIVES BORN'S SCARY RUN, GOES FOR 2ND STRAIGHT
FINALS APPEARANCE
June 16, 2014
As expected, Game 3 was twice as intense, exciting and full of running and gunning as the teams' first two encounters. No one wanted to
let the other win. In the opening quarter, PPL had their blast and made consecutive baskets. PPL left Born behind 10-2. Then something
unexpected happened... PPL's prized point guard Aldren Sengco suffered a broken toe that forced him to sit out the rest of the match.
Sengco's mishap gave Born a chance to retaliate and pull away in the second half of the second quarter.
But PPL remained confident that they would get back. With their gathered strength plus the leadership of GMABT Season 2 MVP Rodcor
Lambino, PPL recovered strongly and closed the second half with only a four-point lead by Born.
During the third quarter, PPL's tight defense made Born's high-scoring duo rattled, enough for them to commit errors. PPL then took the
lead with three minutes left in the third quarter. However, Born refused to give up. A couple of threes and fast breaks by LA Madrid and
Jeremy Reyes helped Born to regain the lead by the end of the third quarter.
In the last two minutes when PPL was up by 2 points, Madrid committed a crucial error that sent PPL's Carl Guevarra to the
charity strip. Guevarra made the first free throw but missed the second. Luckily, he got his own miss and then he fouled. For the next
free throws, Guevarra sank both. PPL was then up by four with only 30 seconds to go in the ballgame. Born's Jeremy Reyes tried to
offset with a quick three but PPL was ready to intercept Reyes' shot. PPL's Carlo Gonzales got the loose ball and made two free throws.
PPL survived Born 96-90 and obtained the right to face Public Affairs in the Finals, setting the stage for an a la SAS-Heat
rematch since PPL and PA also battled it out in the GMABT Season 1 Finals held last February.

PUBLIC AFFAIRS BOOKS the FIRST FINALS SEAT AFTER BEATING SAS, 2-0
June 9, 2014
Public Affairs is now one step closer to completing their Cinderella run. During the classification round, PA finished sixth place. But now,
they've gotten the first seat in the Finals after beating Sunday All Stars in the semifinals duel.
The second battle between PA and SA was like what happened in their first when PA trailed for much of the ball game. Although there was
no Ervic Vijandre to pile up points, there was a Nino Bautista who stepped up and went on a rampage, scoring heavily for PA. The June 9
game was Bautista's best performance in the tournament. Luckily for PA, Bautista peaked during the semis.
PA now awaits the outcome of the third match between Born and PPL, the winner of which PA will meet in a Best-of-Three Finals.
BORN FORCES A RUBBER MATCH
June 9, 2014
With their backs against the wall, Born pushed hard at the start of the game versus PPL. Born led by as much as 15 points in the third quarter
but PPL’s Gener Losaria did not give up and gave Born a run for their money. Workhorse Losaria kept the game close until the end of the third
quarter.
Thanks to the run-and-gun combination of LA Madrid and Jeremy Reyes, Born regained momentum and produced another double-digit lead.
From then on Born never looked back, forcing a rubber match (decisive game) in order to get a seat in the Finals.
Game 3 between Born and PPL is set on Monday, June 16, at the Bernardo Arena, Kamuning, QC.

SEMIFINALS UPDATE (AS OF JUNE 2, 2014)
PPL OVERpowers born, grabs series' opener
June 2, 2014
PPL—through their championship experience—overpowered Born to grab the semifinals series' opener of the Galing Mo Ah! (GMA) Basketball
Tournament Season 2 . However, PPL did win easily because Born gave them a scare and kept the game close as possible.
The action heated up when PPL's Carlo Gonzales was called for a technical foul after he unintentionally elbowed Born's Jeremy Reyes.
The match got more intense when PPL court general Aldren Sengco fouled out after he committed his fifth foul with three minutes left in the ball
game.
In spite of Sengco's exit, Born continued their rally but Arvie Yumul and BJ Maniulit stepped up and contributed points for PPL.
LA Madrid led Born's admirable but unsuccessful efforts with 36 points.
PUBLIC AFFAIRS SURVIVES SUNDAY ALL STARS IN GAME 1
June 2, 2014
Pubic Affairs made a triumphant return after they survived Sunday All Stars' perfect shooting led by SAS' main gunner Jonjon Del Rosario who
connected 10 triples and finished with a game high of 40 points.
Despite PA's height advantage, they were not able to control the ball; instead, SAS prevailed through three quarters and even had a
double-digit lead at the start of the third quarter. However, PA made some adjustments and secured a comeback.
PA took the lead in the five-minute mark of the fourth quarter through a series of fast breaks and run-and-gun play by Ervic Vijandre. After that,
PA never looked back.
PA now has the upper hand in the semifinals series, 1-0.
Semifinals best-of-three begins on JUNE 2!
ppl GRABS THE LAST SEMIS SEAT
May 27, 2014
In the third and last match held last May 26, PPL halted the derring-do of GMA Engineering who attempted to make GMABT history.
PPL’s victory did not come easy because of the absence of their main Big Man Arthur Solinap and wingman Carl Guevarra.
PPL still obtained the last spot in the semifinals. The game between PPL and GMA Engineering was a close fight. Up until the last minutes
the two teams were leading alternately, making the game even more exciting.
Ronald Dacillo guided the Engineers to their biggest run, which was six points. But PPL snatched the lead in the second half because of their
experience and cohesiveness. The defending champ took hold of the ball and did not let go until the end. PPL relied on the all-around game
of Rodcor Lambino who produced 17 markers and 6 rebounds.

BORN TROUNCES ON EAT BULAGA, SECURES SEAT IN THE SEMIS
May 27, 2014
In the second game of May 26, Born prevailed over Eat Bulaga. Only a few minutes into the duel, the men of Born immediately flaunted their
aggressive play. Born continued to attack until the second half with their combined sweet shooting and tight defense.
EB remained undaunted, thanks to the leadership of Leon Fernandez. The Dabarkads boosted their man-to-man guarding and gained the lead
with five minutes left in the game.
Born stayed cool and recaptured the lead because of the efforts exerted by Jet Reyes and Arnel Pineda. EB failed to recover until Born
finally secured the third semifinals seat. Born will face GMABT defending champion PPL in a Best-of-Three series.

aggressive play.
SUNDAY ALL STARS DEFEATS UNDERMANNED AMAZING PLAYGROUND
May 27, 2014
Sunday All Stars outshone Amazing Playground in the game held at Bernardo Arena, Kamuning QC last May 26. SAS could have simply
saved their energy and won by default because only four players from AP showed up. But SAS preferred to go up against AP so the match
proceeded.
SAS clearly had the advantage and milked this to the hilt. To AP’s credit, they put up a good fight. In spite of AP being undermanned,
SAS’ biggest lead was only 12 points. But because of a lack of players both on the bench and on the floor, AP became exhausted and
eventually surrendered during the middle of the fourth quarter. This led to being beaten by SAS who will now face Public Affairs in a

Public affairs upsetS 3rd-seedED ussc, Advances to semifinals
May 21, 2014
Public Affairs made the right defensive adjustments during their game versus USSC on May 20. PA's plays were so good that USSC couldn't
come up with a suitable offense.
Thanks to PA's solid one-three-one defense, they forced USSC to commit turnovers, enabling them to run their fast breaks in the other end.
Benson dela Paz, Jace Flores and Mark Tolentino joined forces to give Public Affairs a double-digit lead during the first half.
In the third quarter, USSC made a full court press that cut PA's lead down to 11. USSC regained the ball but PA's Stephen Patricio stepped up
and scored three consecutive baskets to keep the ball game away from USSC's pesky hands.
Public Affairs' win gave them a ticket to a semifinal seat. PA is now waiting to face whoever wins in next week's game between Sunday All Stars
and Amazing Playground.
1st GMABT all-star game ENDS on a thriller! team sogo escapes team trust 86-83
May 13, 2014
QUEZON CITY, Philippines— The very first GMA (Galing Mo Ah!) Basketball Tournament ALL STAR Game—supported by
Trust Quality Condoms, Hotel Sogo, Mojo Sandals, Men's Health Magazine, BiG Ideas Media Productions and Sportsbytes TV—was
a success! In the match held on May 12, 2014 at Bernardo Arena, TEAM SOGO lorded over TEAM TRUST, 86-83.
The selected Star Players were not lax. The players' willingness and passion to win were evident every minute of the ball game. In fact,
it was a close fight with neither team leading with double-digit figures all throughout. Although Team Sogo trailed almost the entire time due
to height disadvantage, they kept the game close and eventually made a steal.
RJ Lambino was the only big man who played for Team Sogo because team mates Ervic Vijandre and Bonel Halasan were unable to make it.
Lambino fought with all his heart; he went up against Team Trust's big guys Carlo Gonzales, Arthur Solinap and Patrick Reunisto.
Ronald Dacillo, Nino Bautista, Elmer Nogas and Benson dela Paz chipped in to keep Team Sogo in the game.
During the early minutes of the fourth quarter, Team Trust made a run and left Team Sogo behind 8 points, 64-72 with a little less than
seven minutes to go. Team Sogo fought back and make their own run, tying the game at 72 all with three minutes left on the clock.
As the game proceeded to crunch time, Dacillo took matters into his own hands and pulled a couple of baskets that gave Team Sogo the
lead, 83-80.
With only 30 seconds left on the clock, Team Trust's Aldrin Sengco went hard to the basket but got fouled. Sengco made the first
free throw but missed the last. Luckily, Reunisto grabbed the offensive rebound to make the put-back to tie the game at 83 all.
Team Sogo then called for a quick time out.
With only 15 ticks left on the clock and a tied score, Team Sogo had nothing in mind but to melt the clock and take the last shot. Team Sogo's
Dacillo followed instructions; he got the ball from the key, melted the clock down to five seconds and made his move with a stop-and-pop
jumper from the deep three... swishing the net and winning the game for Team Sogo.
nanood kasi first All-Star Game tapos ako pa ang nagpanalo."
and A three-point king is born...
May 13, 2014
May 13, 2014
"Sometimes it is better to be lucky than to be good."
That was the statement of newly-crowned Three-Point King Stephen Patricio who defeated Jonjon del Rosario and Carl Guevarra— two players
who were more favored to win the title.
Patricio made consistent baskets within the rainbow country as he scored 11 points during first round and 11 points again during the final round.
Jonjon del Rosario scored 10 points. Del Rosario could have stolen the show from Patricio if his attempt to sink the Moneyball had been
successful.
Guevarra, meanwhile, scored 7 points.

May 6, 2014
With the absence of Sunday All Stars main bigman Reunisto, PPL had their other big man going wild underneath, grabbing rebounds
uncontestedly. Only the buzzer-beater from Mark Herras at the end of the first half was the highlight for SAS. PPL was led by Arvie Yumul
who drained four threes from the deep which kept PPL far from SAS.

Eat bulaga prevails over engineering in their battle continuation
May 6, 2014

The Engineers' loss gave them a 2-5 win slate and put them on the eighth place going to quarterfinals, where they will face the number 1-seed
PPL with a twice-to-beat advantage.
Exhausted from their back-to-back games, the Dabarkads had a very short-lived shot to second spot after they lost to Born in the succeeding
game.

The win gave EB a shot at the 6th spot, to avoid the 7th and 8th places who will have the twice-to-beat disadvantage. So far, EB has a record
of 2 wins and 3 losses, the same with Born and USSC.

engineers SCORE another VICTORY
April 21, 2014
With the classification round nearing its end, the GMA Engineers do not want to find themselves in the cellar and have the twice-to-win

landing on the 6th spot. The Engineers have a 2-win, 4-loss card. Born together with USSC have fallen into the 2-3 slate.

and familiarity with each other.

REVERSED DESTINY: PPL on a roll, Engineering In a slump
April 7, 2014
Two teams showed reversed destinies on April 7, 2014, during the night's third game of the 2nd Galing Mo Ah! Basketball Tournament. PPL
continued to show its force with another victory that gave it a 4-0 win-loss slate, while GMA Engineering was on a downhill streak with its
fourth straight loss.
The Engineers started strongly and led during the first quarter; however it ended miserably in the hands of the league leader PPL, 73-67.
With PPL's team owner Perry Linsangan present and new acquisition Wendell Ramos playing last night, the team had more reasons to
celebrate.
Aldrin led PPL with a spectacular performance and completed a formidable 25 points; that feat gave for him the honour of being the TRUST
Player of the Week.
public affairs escapes sunday all stars
April 7, 2014
Public Affairs (PA) escaped Sunday All Stars (SAS) 63-62 in a pulsating, cardiac ballgame held last night at the Bernardo Arena, Kamuning,
QC.
PA played without its three big men but still managed to control the entire match, leading most of the time by as much as double digits. Benson
dela Paz and RJ Lambino took charge of PA with 28 points and 17 points, respectively.
During the first half, PA made a tight defense on SAS main gunner Jonjon del Rosario who finished with 21 points in the second half. In the last
two minutes, when the score was 56-55 in favor of PA, del Rosario made his last three-point shot to put SAS back in the lead, 58-56. Lambino
then equalized the situation with a medium-range jumper. After a costly turnover of SAS, Jace Flores of PA defiantly attacked the basket and got
fouled. Flores made only one free throw but that was enough to return the lead to PA, 59-58.
With 30 seconds left in the game, Reunisto (who top scored for SAS with 30 points), made a quick basket which brought SAS's advantage to one
point, 60-59. PA called its last timeout, with 21 seconds left in the clock.
Coming from that timeout, PA's Anthony Guieb hit an air ball that became an assist to Lambino who made an easy put-back. PA resumed the
lead, 61-60. With just 12 seconds left, SAS' last plays went on a scramble; Reunisto tried to force the issue inside but nothing happened until the
time expired. PA went home extremely happy; its players' remarkable performance earned the admiration and praise of everyone--
including SAS.
'amazing' comeback
April 7, 2014
Another win was added to the record of Amazing Playground (AP/Amazing) after it defeated the giant-less Born, 72-61. Bermudez and Ang, who
have been selected to play in Galing Mo Ah! Basketball Tournament's All-Star Game, led Amazing with 24 points and 20 points, respectively.
It was an 11-to-nothing blast for Amazing during the early part. Then, Born retaliated and stole the lead which it held until the end of the third
quarter. Amazing got fired up and made a comeback that it maintained until the finish.
No players, big problems...
April 7, 2014
Eat Bulaga's players were incomplete last night, so it committed a default—giving opponent USSC a 40-0 score.
Amazing 'SHOCKS' bulaga
March 31, 2014
It was close and physical match between Amazing and Eat Bulaga. The game was as "hot" as summer as there were a lot of throwing of elbows
plus the pushing and banging of bodies down the floor. The two teams tied with 17 points in the first quarter. Both held on without letting the other
snatch the victory. There were also plenty of screaming at the referees and trash-talking. The match was decided only in the dying minutes with
the agile dancers of Team Amazing escaping 67-60 to win over the Dabarkads.

Waiting? no problem!
March 31, 2014
Good things come to those who wait and that's exactly what happened to PPL who had to wait 30 minutes before it "sealed the deal," to reach
the top of the GMA Basketball Tournament standings with a 3 win-0 loss record.
Team USSC got confused with game schedule so its players arrived at the venue 30 minutes late. PPL agreed to give its opponents
ten minutes so its efforts would not be put to waste.
USSC, on the other hand, suffered a tough penalty. It was not given a single time out; that was the consequence slapped on the team by the
officials instead of declaring the game as default. To USSC's credit, it scored 56-51 in the 43rd, before PPL powered up by putting in its solid
players. In the end, PPL beat USSC 91-83. Arthur Solinap was PPL's top scorer with 23 points.
all stars tasteS first loss
... but fileS game vs born under protest
March 31, 2014
''We are not against big players but we have to stick on the rules.''
That was the statement made by Sunday All Stars gunner Jonjon del Rosario when its team suffered a loss to Born which was led by 6'7
giant Andrew Rollins.
Without anyone from All Stars able to match up to Rollins inside, the Stars had difficulty getting rebounds in both the offensive and defensive
departments. However, the struggle was not evident since it was beaten by only five points, 75-70. Del Rosario made a remarkable 12 three-point
shots, he also set a tournament record of 44 points in a single game.
The Protest
In other news, Sunday All Stars filed a protest against Born who fielded 6'7 Rollins. Another team claims that it does not recognise Rollins and
does not have knowledge about the GMA Network department that Rollins works for. "Di namin kilala 'yan. Matagal na ako sa GMA at matagal
na rin ako naglalaro (ng basketball) pero di ko pa nakita 'yan o nakalaro man lang," said a source who does not want to be identified.
The Rules
According to the GMABT Rules and Regulations (Page 1, Article 1 bullet), "(Player) must be a TALENT or an EMPLOYEE of GMA Network Inc.
and its affiliates. In case one team wants to field a non-GMA talent/employee, it has to seek GMABT's approval first." Page 3 Diagram B,
Number 1 also states that should a team field a non-GMA talent/employee (without approval), "team will be assessed a loss by forfeiture for the
game and have no stats considered."
The GMABT officials gave Born a week to submit their affidavit or proof that the player under question is part of GMA Network Inc. and/or its
affiliates. GMABT officials reiterate that the rules will prevail.
Stay tuned.
THANKS TO NEW ACQUISITION, Public affairs snatcheS first win
March 31, 2014
After two outings, Public Affairs snatched its first win thanks to key aqcuisition Ervic Vijandre—who top scored with 36 points, 6 rebounds and 5
assists—when it beat the winless GMA Engineering 85-74 last Monday, March 31, during the 2nd GMA Basketball Tournament held
in Bernardo Arena, Kamuning, QC.
The PBA 2014 rookie draftee was tapped to serve the struggling Public Affairs who lacked a legit big man who could also provide scoring in the
crucial minutes.
Public Affairs led Engineering the whole game but the former GMA Sportsfest champion simply refused to give up and kept coming back. Still, the
lack of firepower prevented the Engineers from taking over the situation. Jayr Soto led the Engineers with 30 points.
Sunday All Stars celebrate with a victory sign as they score their second straight win.
sunday all stars: 2 and 'AWE'
It was a down-the-wire finish in the first game of GMA Basketball Tournament between Sunday All Stars
and GMA Engineering. Repeating how they fared in their first assignment, the All Stars started
aggressively and with full energy. Although the Stars were lacking in basketball power (but of course, not
in talent in acting, singing and dancing), they managed to control the game and kept
GMA Engineering trailing, eventually beating the latter in a pulsating game.
With less than a minute to go, Sunday All Stars led the game by as much as 10 points. But for an
unexplainable reason, the Engineers kept shooting instead of melting the clock. Ronald Dacillo, the
Engineers’ main man, started the run as he made a barrage of points to minimize the Stars’ lead to just
five points, 73-68.
After the All Stars’ turnover, Dacillo made the gap closer with a deep three, 71-73. But Jonjon del Rosario
of All Stars had only one thing on his mind when he received a pass, and that was to display his
specialty, the “Stop and Pop Threeeee.”
With only 20 seconds remaining in the match, the Engineers quickly made a three-point play to cut the
Stars lead down to two, 76-74. Garcia of GMA Engineering, the smallest man on the court at 4’8, stole
the ball off All-Stars inbound; he quickly went to the basket and got a foul. Garcia made only one free
throw but that gave GMA Engineering breathing room, 76-75.
With only 3.5 seconds left, the Engineers had to give up a foul to stop the clock, hoping that the Stars’
thrower would miss. True enough Patrick Reunisto of All-Stars did miss the first free throw but he made
the last which gave the Stars the lead, 77-75.
Off timeout, the Engineers made a not-so-clean play that even they themselves did not know who among
them was going to shoot. With 3.5 seconds left, Dacillo held the ball too long before he passed it to
his teammate who was in the corner and who then fumbled as the time expired. The All-Stars escaped
77-75, to clinch a 2-0 win-loss record in the tournament.

BOOMING EARLY?
TWO MORE TEAMS SEND FEELERS TO JOIN GMABT
With only a week after the opening of Season 2, GMA Basketball Tournament (GMABT) is unexpectedly booming as
two teams have expressed intentions to be the seventh and eighth teams in the league.
Apparently, the professional league-style of GMABT attracted the said teams. One of those planning to join is the
staff of the program,“Born To Be Wild” which will be known as “Born.” The other is a group of employees from
Western Union who will play as guest team. As they say, "The more, the merrier!"

AMaZING playground takes opener VS. depleted gma engineering, 87-83

to stay in the game and won 87-83.
Engineering’s Jayr Sotto led all scorers with 33 points while Rhodge Bermudez of Amazing Playground
led the winning team with 29 points and 6 rebounds. Bermudez emerged as the Best Player of the

STARS OUTSHINE DABARKADS
DEl rosario & herras lead sunday all-stars past eat bulaga, 57-46
Leading by double digits, Sunday All-Stars thought they had the game in the bag but Eat Bulaga kept
coming back to scare the Stars.
But veteran Jonjon del Rosario (who made 17 points) did not panic as he scored a series of three-point
shots. Together with Mark Herras, he sustained the Stars’ lead and cinched their team’s first win in
the tourney.

season 1 finals rematch: PPL poundS public affairs, 100-65
PRE-SEASON WARM-UP GAMES
Center-CHALLENGED PUBLIC AFFAIRS VOWS TO MAKE A FINALS COMEBACK
Pre-season match-ups were conducted a week before the opening day of the GMA Basketball Tournament Season 2.
Four of the six teams were present. PPL, Sunday All-Stars, Public Affairs and Amazing Playground were the teams
that showed up at the tune-up games.
GMA Basketball Club Season 1 champion PPL won twice over Sunday All-Stars whose team was composed of only
five players. PPL had new recruits in Arthur Solinap, Wendell Ramos and Carlo Gonzales. The three are
artists managed by PPL Management and so they are allowed to play under the GMA Basketball Tournament rules.
In the other match-up, Beat Balls (dancers of Sunday All-Stars) defeated Public Affairs, last season’s runner-up
winners. Public Affairs, formerly named Team Heartthrobs, is composed of players from Season 1. Public Affairs
lacked big men in their roster; this has been the team’s long-time problem and great challenge especially now that the
other teams have bigger and stronger players.
According to Public Affairs Team Captain Stephen Patricio, their team is planning to get 2014 PBA draftee
Ervic Vijandre to gag the hole underneath. “Ah, natalo kami twice against the Beat Balls pero digit lang. Okay na rin
yon considering anim lang kaming naglaro at puro guards pa. Akala ko nga security agency kami eh! Pero once
makakuha kami ng sentro balik-finals kami!” Patricio reiterated.
